Start-Up Business Adviser

Salary circa £32,800
Fixed Term to 31 March 2027
37 hours per week (open to Part Time and Job Share)

We are seeking a proactive Start-Up Business Adviser to support individuals and early-stage businesses across Northumberland.  The role involves assessing clients’ readiness to start a business, developing tailored action plans, and providing hands-on support with business and financial planning to help them become self-employed.

You will also support new business owners during their first 12 months of trading, offering ongoing advice, guidance, and access to relevant support services.  The role includes meeting performance targets, following funded project processes, and maintaining accurate records.

In addition, you will represent the organisation at events, deliver business start-up awareness activities, and build strong relationships within the wider North East business community.

We are therefore seeking a candidate who meets the person specification outlined below.

Person Specification
  • Comprehensive understanding of the practicalities of running and growing a business.
  • Track record of starting up individuals in business, from concept idea through to trading.
  • Experience of managing a business.
  • Positive and proactive approach to enterprise and business start-up support.
  • Exemplary interpersonal, communication and active listening skills.
  • Knowledge of the local and regional business support network and intermediary contacts.
  • Knowledge of NBSL services.
  • Ability to create and maintain strong relationships with clients, partner organisations & intermediaries.
  • Good organisational, client management skills and ICT competent.
  • Strong team player, working well with others and showing respect and support for all colleagues.
