NBSL has a proven track record of helping the people of Northumberland, not only to start their business but to help them succeed.  We are “putting our money where our mouth is” and expanding our service and investing in this Full Time Lead Enterprise Adviser role.

We would like you to provide 1:1 and 1:Small group support and advice to clients in their pre and post start up phases of business and, as you identify trends and unmet needs, help us to develop the nature of relevant workshop events and other related services as identified. You need to be an effective contract manager to ensure we deliver our contractual targets to various funding bodies.

This newly expanded role is funded through a variety of sources, NBSL itself; the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) 2014 – 2020 and the New Enterprise Allowance programme (DWP) in Northumberland.  Experience of both funds would be an advantage but not essential if you are willing to learn the detail!

Main Duties

  • Provide independent & impartial advice to clients who wish to explore starting their own business, including ideas developments, confidence building, personal barrier removal and production of a business plan, and support them in the initial 12 months trading period.
  • Report all activities and outcomes in line with contractual requirements
  • Drive up demand for enterprise support across the county through effective marketing of NBSL programmes and services, working alongside our Marketing Manager including the use of relevant social media platforms and liaison with internal and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Influence and develop the NBSL enterprise support in line with emerging trends and unmet needs,
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders and partners on behalf of NBSL.
  • Working with NBSL colleagues, develop ideas to grow NBSL’s enterprise offer for when funding opportunities become available.

Person Specification

We are looking for an individual who meets the following person specification:

Experience

  • Relevant experience in a related role.
  • Experience of providing start-up support to point of trading and supporting them to successfully grow a sustainable business over the first year.
  • Experience of working across different sectors and with a range of businesses and social enterprises.
  • Desirable – experience of developing a quality client service.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Performance oriented - determined to deliver a quality service whilst achieving contractual targets.
  • Self-starter able to work as part of a wider team.
  • An in-depth knowledge of the business support landscape and the ability to advise businesses on the range of options available.
  • Excellent mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Proven networking and relationship building skills with partner organisations.
  • Working knowledge of ERDF; ESF and other types of funding an advantage.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Good administration skills to ensure effective reporting and maintenance of client records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to produce and present reports and briefings.
  • Problem solving.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Experience of working within quality assurance frameworks.

For the right candidate we will offer:

Salary - £30,000, Fixed Term to 30 June 2023 (subject to funding), Hours – 37 hours per week.

Place of work /travel – after a year in restrictions we are considering how we will work longer term and what elements of home working may colleagues want to retain. We expect to continue to use virtual platforms long term for some activity particularly to meet with those clients who live in remote parts of Northumberland.  The main office base is 6 Esther Court, Wansbeck Business Park, Ashington, NE63 8AP.  Occasional peripatetic travel to areas of Northumberland may be necessary.
