Leading North East electrical contractor uses NBSL funding to improve productivity and efficiency.
Sunderland-based McNally and Thompson are one of the North of England's leading electrical contractors who specialise in installing fire alarms and power and distribution systems, CCTV and external lighting, feature lighting, and designing their own systems to suit the client.
Business Need
In order to ensure the business had a clear focus and was operating as efficiently as possible MD Fred Hood was keen to review the processes within the business. He was keen to get an external expert to help with this review.
Solutions
Irene Liddle, Business Coach and Consultant from Construction Contractors UK provided the company with hands-on coaching and mentoring assistance, setting goals and looking at processes to improve overall efficiency and productivity. On her strategy, Irene said; "I find that hands-on coaching and mentoring is the most effective way to improve the business."
Assistance from Irene also included developing McNally and Thompson's mission statement and business goals, which the company had no previous support with.
Impact
As a result of the work that has been completed with the support of NBSL McNally and Thompson won the "Medium-size Business Award" in the Sunderland Portofino Awards and the "SME Category "in the Constructing Excellence Awards in May 2013.
On presenting the award for best SME business at the 2013 Constructing Excellence Awards, a senior judge said: "McNally and Thompson are articulate and clear about what they aim to achieve. They are evidently strategic and savvy on how to progress. I like the fact that when they regularly exceed KPI targets they ramp it up as a stretch target – demonstrating a drive for continuous improvement. As a company they are compelling and exemplary".
The company has a healthy future order book and are negotiating regular contracts with new clients.
