A Hexham business started up with funding from NBSL, has gained the approval of Dragon's Den Theo Paphitis on his Small Business Sunday network.
Gift in a Tin had just launched a new redesigned website, and the business was five years old. Owner, Anne Livesey, thought it might just be worth Tweeting the Dragon and was delighted when it was retweeted to the Dragon's 400,000 followers.
"It couldn't have come at a better time" said Anne. The website is buzzing with shoppers, and raising the profile of the business in this way is tremendous".
The business has been featured on www.theopaphitis.com, and the Gift in a Tin Twitter following @giftinatin grew by 300 followers overnight.
"The power of the web is amazing, particularly when you sell online like we do. Social media is fantastic as it's all free, and small businesses need to make the most of it", said Anne.
Getting the endorsement from the Dragon has resulted in a boost of online sales plus a flurry of enquiries from shops wanting to stock the Gift in a Tin range. The business is also working with Robert Dyas and John Lewis to be part of their Christmas gift ranges.
The Hexham Courant spotted Gift in a Tin back in 2010 when it was the winner of the Retail Category in the Digital Awards that year. Since then, the business has gone from strength to strength, picking up more awards and the owner, Anne, being a MumPreneur UK Finalist and the Garden Gift Tin for Her finishing in the top three of the highly competitive Gift Association, Gift of the Year Awards.
