We're settled in to our new home, so we thought it was time for a bit of an update to our website. The same great content, just more accessible and better for touch screens and mobile devices.
The way people look at websites is changing - towards the end of last year, almost 40% of the people who looked at our website did it on a mobile device, a smartphone or a tablet. And that percentage is probably only going to get higher.
So, a few months ago, we decided that we needed to do something about it. We asked our ever helpful friends at inSquare Media what they thought about producing a mobile version of the website, but they made a different suggestion - a responsive website - one that would adapt to different screen sizes, rather than loading a different site all together.
About two months ago, they set about building it for us - the only guidance we gave was that the site had to work on any type of device, it had to load quickly (because, unfortunately, almost no-one in Northumberland has 20Mb broadband) and it had to be really simple to navigate. And this is the finished site - we love it and it does everything we wanted.
We're going to be doing a lot more with the website over the coming months - including plenty of new, helpful content, and we're also going to be making a lot more use of social media to keep all of you up to date with what's going on.
